Alcohol on board
A glass of bubbly, a glass of wine, a pint can undoubtedly promote conviviality.
Excessive drinking threatens safety on board. So we will definitely not allow it.
Would you like an official guide on board?
I know Ghent well, but an official guide on board offers great added value. The guide does not have to stay on board the whole trip.
Guides are available in Dutch, French and English.
How many people can board?
A total of eight people are allowed on board, including the skipper.
This means that when a guide is on board, six people can come along.
Otherwise, seven people can sail along.
Is food and drink available?
The Griffioen does not have food and drinks on board.
You can bring your own pick-nick.
Preferably do not bring chips and olives on board.
Grease damages the teak on board.
Are children allowed on board?
A pram unfortunately prevents freedom of movement on board a sloop. As soon as they can walk, children are of course welcome. However, they must always wear a life jacket. We have two life jackets on board. An adult must accompany them.
Do we only sail the suggested routes?
Almost any customised route is possible. A taxi service on the water? A romantic photo shoot for your wedding day? Your stag party? You just ask.
Do we also sail in bad weather?
The griffin is an open sloop. In case of cold or rain, we adjust our clothing.
In extremely bad weather, we agree on a new day.
Do we also sail at sea?
The Griffioen is seaworthy and is approved for sailing at sea. However, we only sail on inland waterways through and around Ghent.
What is the best place to park?
Unless agreed otherwise, De Griffioen will be waiting for you at the public quay at rodetorenkaai.
Parking is best on the corner of schoolkaai and Sint-Machariusstraat.
On the other side, parking costs many times more.
When do you pay the bill?
You can pay on board using the Payconiq app.
What do the prices quoted mean?
Unless otherwise indicated, the price quoted is for the boat, not per person. The price includes everything: the skipper, fuel, VAT.
What clothes do we wear?
If the weather is nice, you may be a little blander. Bear in mind that the water reflects the sun in an extra dangerous way. The message is to put on some extra sun cream.
In cool weather, an extra pull is welcome. In case of rain, adapted clothing is necessary as the griffin is an open sloop.
Shoes: In any case, the many teak on board does not tolerate leather or colour-fading soles. High heels are strictly forbidden.
Who is the skipper?
My name is Louis. I have been sailing since I was fourteen years old. At the age of seventeen, I became a sailing instructor for the then Bloso in Nieuwpoort. About fifteen years ago, I switched to motor boating.
Happy to share my passion with you.
Who draws up the bill?
The invoices are made out by Vaarpunt Griffioen gcv, Sint-Antoniuskaai 27 bus 02 02, 9000 Ghent
Company number : 0 806 752 958
Are pets welcome?
Unfortunately, pets will not feel comfortable on board. Their living space is much too limited.
So we cannot allow them on board.
